The grapes for this cooler-climate loving variety were sourced from two vineyards of the Crownthorpe and Mararekakaho district of Hawkes Bay, located either side of the banks of the Ngaruroro River.
The 2020 growing season experienced a cooler start during Spring flowering, helping to naturally moderate crop for higher wine quality later. The climate then led into a long dry summer, continuing right through to harvest, providing ideal conditions which allowed the grapes to be picked at optimal ripeness. Healthy fruit was harvested on 19th March and 1st April 2020 at 22.0° average Brix.
This appealing wine was crafted in a fruit-forward style achieved through vinification in stainless steel tanks, along with a slow cool fermentation. Inoculated with yeasts specially selected to bring out the luscious intensity of this aromatic variety, the wine was lightly fined, and progressed through to cold stabilisation, before bottling under screwcap on 11th August 2020
