Merlot Cabernet

The grapes for this beautifully crafted Merlot Cabernet were selected from superior Hawkes Bay vineyards ideally suited to Bordeaux reds.  2016 was an excellent ripening season for Hawkes Bay fruit, with warm dry days and sunshine in abundance.  The fruit was brought to optimum ripeness, and was harvested 16-12 April 2016. 

The final blend was composed from 56% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc.  Each parcel was individually fermented in stainless steel tanks, for enhanced colour and flavour. The parcels were then sent to barrel for added complexity of predominantly French oak seasoning for nineteen months, then blended back to shape the final wine. Bottling took place in December2017, under screwcap closure. 

This fine Merlot Cabernet blend has lovely blackcurrant and boysenberry aromas and flavours, complemented with subtle liquorice, leather and spice complexity and a lingering nutmeg finish.  Matured in quality French oak for nineteen months, it is approachable and will pair perfectly with your favourite pasta dish.
