The grapes for this cooler-climate loving variety were sourced from a single vineyard in the Maraekakaho sub-region of Hawkes Bay, which enjoys a temperate climate moderated throughout summer by cooling afternoon breezes. 2016 produced clean, healthy, flavoursome fruit, harvested on 30 March 2016 at 21.3° Brix.
The grapes were pressed on arrival, and the clarified juice sent to stainless steel for fermentation, initiated with yeast specially selected for its aromatic expression. The wine was allowed two weeks on lees to enhance its complexity and mouthfeel then casein fined, progressing through to cold stabilisation.Bottling took place 1 July 2016, under screwcap.
This highly appealing single-vineyard Pinot Gris from low yielding vines brims with pear, lychee and lemon citrus notes, and ginger spice hints. The palate is luscious, yet refined, with a smooth satisfyingly long finish. A beautifully balanced wine, for enjoyment on its own, or paired with food.
