Tasting Note

The grapes for this generous wine were grown exclusively in the stony soils of our Mere Road Vineyard in the prestigious Gimblett Gravels wine growing

district, on low yielding closely-spaced vines. After an excellent growing season where hot, dry spells with intermittent rain kept the vines in good health, leading up to a settled autumn and an earlier than usual, compressed harvest, we harvested fruit of excellent quality on 7 and 11 April 2014 at 22.3o Brix.

The two parcels of grapes were gently crushed, allowing some whole berries to remain intact, and the must transferred into an open top and a closed stainless steel tank for 2 days cold soak. Fermentation proceeded with twice daily plunging and rummaging for colour, flavour and fine tannin extraction. The resulting wine was aged for 14 months in a mix of quality French and American 300L hogsheads (24% being new French wood). The wine was fined and filtered prior to bottling in August 2015 under screwcap closure.


Crafted from fine Merlot grapes grown exclusively in the Gimblett Gravels Winegrowing District, this superb single-vineyard wine exudes quality. Delicious
blackberry and plum aromas and flavours abound, supported by liquorice, spices and a hint of black tea. Fourteen months ageing in predominantly French
oak barrels has bestowed a silky smooth palate. Immensely enjoyable now, it will also reward judicious cellaring.
