The grapes for this beautifully crafted Merlot Cabernet were selected from superior Hawkes Bay vineyards ideally suited to Bordeaux reds.
2014 was an excellent season for Hawkes Bay fruit, with warm dry days and sunshine in abundance, bringing the fruit to optimum ripeness without adverse weather and its attendant disease pressure. Fruit was harvested between 5 and 16 April 2014.
The final blend was composed from 56% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Cabernet Franc. Each parcel was individually fermented in stainless steel tanks, for enhanced colour and flavour. The parcels were then sent to barrel for added complexity of predominantly French oak seasoning for nine months or so, then blended back to shape the final wine. Bottling took place in March and July 2015, under screwcap closure.
This fine Merlot Cabernet blend has lovely blackcurrant and blackberry aromas and flavours, complemented with delicious floral notes, subtle leather complexity and a lingering star anise finish. Matured in quality French oak for nine months, it is approachable and delicious, and will pair perfectly with your favourite pasta dish.
