Trust Vineyard Syrah
Gimblett Gravels, Hawkes Bay2010
This distinguished Syrah was grown in our 4 hectare Trust Vineyard in the highly acclaimed Gimblett Gravels of Hawkes Bay. The vineyard design embraces high plant density with extremely low yields per vine, in the pursuit of ultra-premium wines. The grapes were hand-picked on 8th of May at 24.1░ Brix.
At the winery they were destemmed and cold soaked for 6 days before fermentation using indigenous yeast in 400 litre Integrale barrels, with careful monitoring to maintain a temperature between 28 ľ 32 degrees celius. Cap management entailed twice daily rotations, and on completion of fermentation, a 17 day post-ferment maceration on skins followed. The wine was pressed and transferred for aging into 300 litre hogshead barrels (45% French, 55% American of which 67% was new) for fifteen months. The wine remained unfined and was lightly pad filtered before bottling on 17th November 2011 under Stelvin screwcap.
This impressive Syrah is elegantly styled with a delightful floral bouquet teamed with blackcurrant and white pepper aromas and flavours, complemented with savoury, leather and toasty oak notes. A beautifully poised wine that is enjoyable now or will flourish with cellaring.
