Gimblett Gravels, Hawkes Bay2010
The grapes for this distinguished single-vineyard wine were grown exclusively in our highly regarded Mere Road Vineyard in the renowned Gimblett Gravels of Hawkes Bay.Hand-picked on 6th May at 23.3░ Brix.
The grapes were destemmed, retaining whole berries, which were cold soaked for 4 days prior to fermentation in two batches using selected and indigenous yeasts in 100% French integrale barrels, rotated twice daily. Post fermentation, the wines were allowed 18 days alcohol soak before being pressed off skins and transferred to barrel for 15 months aging in quality French hogsheads (63% new). This superior wine received no fining and only a light pad filtration before bottling on 17th November 2011 under Stelvin screwcap.
This stunning Gimblett Gravels Syrah is deep, dark and complex, bursting with juicy fleshy blackcurrant and blackberry fruit, spicy black pepper, smoky leather and caramel, all seamlessly integrated on a smooth supple palate. A luscious and refine wine that is immensely enjoyable now or will flourish with cellaring.
